Interactive Floorplan - Herb garden
The Victorian privy was restored by the museum. With no mains water supply until the 20th century, the privy would have been used as the main toilet. Waste was collected in a bucket and collected by a ‘night soil man’.
The award-winning garden was designed, planted and is maintained by museum volunteers. Many of the plants have medicinal or culinary properties.
To commemorate the 500th anniversary of the death of the first Amersham martyr pupils from St Mary’s School worked with a local artist to create this mural.
