Amersham’s Women at War and Car Richardson’s People of WWI

November 7, 2018 - March 31, 2019

Discover the incredible stories of local women who supported the war effort in WWI and campaigned for women’s suffrage. The exhibition will be regularly changed, featuring different women each time. The exhibition will be complemented by the display of the drawings of local artist Car Richardson, of recuperating WWI soldiers. There will be over 50 images on display of images drawn by car or injured servicemen and women.

Talk: The Long Battle: The Women’s Suffrage Collection in the Women’s Library

Dr Debbie Challis, Education and Outreach Officer at the Women’s Library, will provide an introduction to the material relating to the campaign for women’s suffrage held in the Women’s Library at LSE. The different campaign groups, personalities and methods of protest in the long fight to get women the vote at all and then on an equal basis to men will be considered. DUE TO THE POOR WEATHER CONDITIONS EXPECTED FOR FRIDAY 1ST FEBRUARY THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELLED.  Join Ka-Yee Fung-Chan, a prominent local calligrapher, as she demonstrates the art of Chinese calligraphy, and talks us through its history and spiritualism, before learning some basic Chinese calligraphy techniques yourself. Amersham’s Women at War Open Afternoon

Work with artist Katy Cook to paint portraits using oil pastels. Your work will be inspired by the museum’s recent acquisition of three paintings by Marie-Louise von Motesiczky. This session is for ages 5+ and booking required. There is a session in the morning, 10am-12 noon or in the afternoon 2pm-4pm.
