Make, Mend and Wash

September 22 @ 12:30 pm - December 18 @ 4:30 pm

From the lace makers of the 1800s to World War II darning, see examples of how the people of Amersham created, mended and repaired their clothing and textiles. Making, mending and repairing have been necessary skills for centuries, but also an outlet for creative self-expression. Enjoy examples from our collection including beautiful tambour beading, intricate straw plaiting, delicate lace, and expert smocking.

All of the museum’s in-house exhibitions are FREE to visit after admission to the museum.
