
Sewing Straw Plait

This basic course will introduce the skills required to successfully stitch plait into a hat, bag, or basket. You will be provided with ready-made straw plait, thread, and needle to start the sewing process.
Structure:

The workshop will be led by Veronica Main MBE who is one of the last traditional straw plaiters and has also learned hat sewing. There will be an introductory talk then participants will start by making a hat button then continue stitching and shaping the plait. This course will provide the basic knowledge to continue personal development of the skills. You will not have time to make a complete hat!
Timings and Details:
- Three-hour course 13:30 to 16:30
- No need to bring anything and no previous skill/experience required
- Not suitable for people with allergies to straw dust
- Please be aware, plaiting requires manual dexterity and is close work
- 10 places available
- Not suitable for children under 10 years of age
- Refreshments will be provided, toilets on site

Straw Plaiting Workshop

The cost of an individual course is £30
