Tambour Embroidery

October 13 @ 10:00 am - 1:00 pm

To link with our Make, Mend and Wash exhibition, explore a range of textile crafts with local crafts people. From lace making to weaving and tambour beading to spinning, each session will include a talk on the history of the technique, related objects from the Museum’s collection to look at, and a workshop for participants to try the technique and create a small object or sample to take away.

When the value of handmade lace declined in the late 19th century, tambour embroidery and beading was taken up by women and children in Amersham to earn extra income. Come learn this fascinating technique and hear about it’s history from a couture embroiderer with over 30 years experience.
