What Makes Objects Precious?

November 20, 2024 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm

£9.00
Precious Objects
Wednesday 20 November, 6.30pm to 8pm
£9 including glass of wine or soft drink

Join artist Elaine Duigenan and museum director Briony Hudson to reflect on the value of objects. They’ll take you behind the scenes of the creation of Precious Objects, Amersham Museum’s current temporary exhibition, and discuss the broad themes it raises.  What is the role of art and artists, curators and museums in creating value, elevating objects to precious status, or safeguarding them for a community?
Hear from Elaine about her longstanding interest in objects, starting with the Hunterian Museum of historical surgical specimens, her practice of scanning, and her current work that involves making sculptural objects. Participate in the discussion with a glass of wine or soft drink in hand, and take the opportunity to see the exhibition with its creators available to answer your questions.
Elaine Duigenan is a photographic artist based in London. She has exhibited internationally and has work in collections which include the V&A and The Museum of Fine Art in Houston. Her work is represented in the US (East Coast) by Klompching Gallery in New York. Alongside making her own series of work for exhibition, she undertakes artist residencies and works alongside institutions to devise and deliver special projects.

“Visited Amersham museum yesterday – lovely place, provides many details on the history of the place. Plenty of cute cafes, pubs and shops around also… not difficult to find free parking nearby. ”

“A well-run, informative and interesting small museum on the main street. It’s mostly volunteer-run and they do a great job in keeping it and making you feel welcome…Check out the herb garden too.”

“Enjoyable film and television location guided walk around Amersham hosted by Amersham Museum – here are the Sun Houses on Highover Park and further up the hill is High & Over.”
