SUMMARY:Half Term Activities
DESCRIPTION:Shrapnel Boys: Life on the Home Front Museum Trail\nFrom 24th May – 1st June\, join us for the Shrapnel Boys: Life on the Home Front Museum Trail\, organised by Kids in Museums and Usborne. This national family trail is inspired by Shrapnel Boys\, a forthcoming novel by award-winning children’s author Jenny Pearson. \nThe trail runs throughout the half term (during opening hours) and is free for children to take part in (but normal admission prices for adults apply. \nShrapnel Boys is a novel about the friendship and courage of a group of young boys living through the Second World War. \nWhen war comes to London in 1939\, Ronnie Smith is scared and excited: scared of the bombs that fall at night\, but excited to race his friends to collect the best bits of shrapnel every morning. \nBut for Ronnie\, the battles aren’t just in the sky and on the streets. They’re at school and at home too. His little brother is up to no good with a secret job and dangerous new friends\, and Ronnie’s worried he’s getting himself into big trouble. \nRonnie’s desperate to help his little brother. But he isn’t expecting to uncover secrets that could change the fate of the whole war… \nPick up a free activity sheet to join in at Amersham Museum. Explore what life was like for children on the home front and search for hidden objects around the museum. Complete the spotter trail and receive a free sticker! \nChildren can also design their own VE Day bunting. One winning design will receive: \n\nA signed copy of Shrapnel Boys by Jenny Pearson\nA National Art Pass (plus kids) courtesy of Art Fund – giving one adult plus children under 16 free entry to hundreds of museums\, galleries\, and historic houses across the UK\, plus 50% off major exhibitions!\n\nFull competition terms and conditions: https://kidsinmuseums.org.uk/what-we-do/museum-trails/shrapnel-boys-competition/

SUMMARY:Guided Tudor Walk
DESCRIPTION:Join a guided Tudor Walk to learn about life – and death – in 16th century Amersham \n\nFood and drink\nMarkets and fairs\nBuildings and burgage plots\nClothing and work\nHealth and cures\nReligious beliefs and the Lollard martyrs\n\nThese walks are led by guides in Tudor costume and start from the museum at 2.30pm on the last Saturday in each month (April to September).  \nThe walk visits the church (weddings permitting!) then leaves the town and follows field paths. It includes a steady climb\, which is taken slowly. Baby buggies have successfully managed the route and we did once get a mobility buggy up the hill! Be warned\, if you pay for parking\, that the walk usually lasts about 2¼ hours. \nWe strongly recommending booking your tickets in advance to guarantee your place on our walks. While we will do our best to accommodate people on the day\, places are subject to availability. \nNotes\nIf you would like to visit the museum on the same day as your walk\, this is possible from 12noon before the walk starts\, but there is not time after the walk finishes. \nIf you have queries about accessibility or routes\, please get in touch and we would be happy to provide you with detailed information. \nPlease make sure you have checked details before ordering tickets. It is necessary for the museum to charge a cancellation fee of £1 to cover credit card and administration costs.
