SUMMARY:Guided Tudor Walk
DESCRIPTION:Join a guided Tudor Walk to learn about life – and death – in 16th century Amersham \n\nFood and drink\nMarkets and fairs\nBuildings and burgage plots\nClothing and work\nHealth and cures\nReligious beliefs and the Lollard martyrs\n\nThese walks are led by guides in Tudor costume and start from the museum at 2.30pm on the last Saturday in each month (April to September).  \nThe walk visits the church (weddings permitting!) then leaves the town and follows field paths. It includes a steady climb\, which is taken slowly. Baby buggies have successfully managed the route and we did once get a mobility buggy up the hill! Be warned\, if you pay for parking\, that the walk usually lasts about 2¼ hours. It is possible to take a short cut near the end\, which saves perhaps 15 minutes (most people don’t). \nWe strongly recommending booking your tickets in advance to guarantee your place on our walks. While we will do our best to accommodate people on the day\, places are subject to availability. \nNotes\nIf you would like to visit the museum on the same day as your walk\, this is possible from 11:30am before the walk starts\, but there is not time after the walk finishes. \nIf you have queries about accessibility or routes\, please get in touch and we would be happy to provide you with detailed information. \nPlease make sure you have checked details before ordering tickets.
SUMMARY:Guided walk ‘Plants and Places’ – An Amersham amble
DESCRIPTION:In partnership with Wild Amersham join local botanist Karen van Oostrum for a gentle walk around the lanes and fields of Old Amersham. \n\nDiscover the plants that grow on your doorstep\nLearn about the geography and history of your local landscape\nFind out how our use of the land has changed over the years\nEnjoy views over Old Amersham\n\nKaren in museum garden\nThis is the third of 3 walks in this series\, taking place in spring\, summer and autumn. Each walk follows the same route\, helping us to notice the seasonal changes as we progress through the year.  Note that the walk isn’t aimed specifically at families\, but children are welcome if they have an interest in local wildlife and history\, and would enjoy a walk packed full of information.” \nKaren has a love of plants and the environment\, and enjoys sharing this with others\, through courses and guided walks. A Biology graduate of Oxford University with a Ph. D. in wheat genetics\, Karen was Head of Education at Cambridge University Botanic Garden for several years\, and has worked with people of many ages from diverse backgrounds. \nThese days\, Karen works as an Associate Tutor for the Field Studies Council\, writing and delivering introductory courses in Botany\, and hosting school visits at FSC Amersham Field Centre. She volunteers with her local environment group\, leading guided walks and overseeing a Pollinator-Friendly Garden and Community Orchard.  Karen also helps to coordinate the Central Chilterns Botany Group.  \nWe strongly recommending booking your tickets in advance to guarantee your place on our walks. While we will do our best to accommodate people on the day\, places are subject to availability. \n  \n  \nWhite bryony\n  \nNotes \nIf you would like to visit the museum on the same day as your walk\, this is possible after the walk as it is open until 4.30pm. \nIf you have queries about accessibility or routes\, please get in touch and we would be happy to provide you with detailed information. \nPlease make sure you have checked details before ordering tickets. It is necessary for the museum to charge a cancellation fee of £1 to cover credit card and administration costs. \n

\nWe strongly recommending booking your tickets in advance to guarantee your place on our walks. While we will do our best to accommodate people on the day\, places are subject to availability. \nNotes\nIf you would like to visit the museum on the same day as your walk\, this is possible from 12noon before the walk starts\, but there is not time after the walk finishes. \nIf you have queries about accessibility or routes\, please get in touch and we would be happy to provide you with detailed information. \nPlease make sure you have checked details before ordering tickets.
