SUMMARY:Rooted in the Land double bill film night
DESCRIPTION:Amersham Museum \n£10 including wine or soft drink \nJoin us to enjoy two short films that provide an insight into Amersham’s past\, inspired by our current Rooted in the Land exhibition. Excerpt from both films feature in the exhibition\, but this is your chance to watch the full versions.  Note that neither have sound tracks\, but we expect that the audience reactions and reflections may compensate for this! \nControversial today\, the Old Berkeley Hunt was a key part of local life for centuries. With the Old Berkeley Hunt documents the hounds\, horses\, foxes and riders in the early 1930s. \nStarting with herding pigs and ending with enjoying sausages for tea\, our 1950s promotional film for Brazil’s\, provides a comprehensive account of the iconic Amersham meat company. \nContent warning: these historical films include explicit scenes of butchery and fox hunting. Although the exhibition excerpts were edited to exclude the more explicit images\, this screening will show all of the original footage. \n  \nPlease make sure you have checked details before ordering tickets. It is necessary for the museum to charge a cancellation fee of £1 to cover credit card and administration costs.

SUMMARY:Guided Tudor Walk
DESCRIPTION:Join a guided Tudor Walk to learn about life – and death – in 16th century Amersham \n\nFood and drink\nMarkets and fairs\nBuildings and burgage plots\nClothing and work\nHealth and cures\nReligious beliefs and the Lollard martyrs\n\nThese walks are led by guides in Tudor costume and start from the museum at 2.30pm on the last Saturday in each month (April to September).  \nThe walk visits the church (weddings permitting!) then leaves the town and follows field paths. It includes a steady climb\, which is taken slowly. Baby buggies have successfully managed the route and we did once get a mobility buggy up the hill! Be warned\, if you pay for parking\, that the walk usually lasts about 2¼ hours. \nWe strongly recommending booking your tickets in advance to guarantee your place on our walks. While we will do our best to accommodate people on the day\, places are subject to availability. \nNotes\nIf you would like to visit the museum on the same day as your walk\, this is possible from 12noon before the walk starts\, but there is not time after the walk finishes. \nIf you have queries about accessibility or routes\, please get in touch and we would be happy to provide you with detailed information. \nPlease make sure you have checked details before ordering tickets. SUMMARY:Straw plaiting beginners’ workshop

She has written two groundbreaking books that record straw work’s endangered skills. \nWhat shall I bring on the day?\nPair of small scissors \nNotebook and pen or pencil \nBag to take home your samples \nHow do I continue working at home?\nPlaiting straw and straw splitters will be supplied for the course but will also be available for purchase in the museum shop. \nIf you are interested but can’t attend the sessions listed\, please email info@amershammuseum.org to be added to the waiting list for any future sessions.
