During lockdown local artists Marjolein Trewavas and Liz Turner set up Sew for Carers. With the support of 300 local women and one man, they collectively made and distributed 5,000 items of scrubs for local NHS and care-workers.

They fundraised to buy the fabric and patterns for the NHS. For care-workers they were able to reuse old duvet covers and pillow cases to repurpose into scrubs, headbands, washbags and face coverings. The items were sent to care homes and GP surgeries in Amersham, Chesham and nearby villages, as well as to the hospitals in Amersham and Milton Keynes.

At the end of the project, Marjolein and Liz invited all the volunteers to make and decorate a piece of bunting, describing their experience of being involved in Sew for Carers. The bunting has been donated to the museum and is now on display in reception. It is a moving insight into how much people benefited from the opportunity to help those in need and to come together as a community.
