Amersham at War and Car Richardson’s People of WWI

November 7, 2018 - March 31, 2019

This exhibition explores what it was like to live in Amersham during WWI; the experiences of the women and children left behind as well as those who passed through the town. Learn about the people who returned to Amersham from the Front and the commemoration of war in the town.   The exhibition will be complemented by the display of the drawings of local artist Car Richardson, of recuperating WWI soldiers. Talk: Suffragette Voices – Recordings of Veterans Telling their Stories

Antonia Raeburn’s “The Militant Suffragettes”, published in 1973, has been described as a ‘forgotten classic’.  It is the Suffragette story, told where possible in their words, taken from numerous personal recordings she made at the time. Much of the recorded material has remained unheard and Antonia will present it together with the contemporary relevant illustrations.    The talk takes place in the Market Hall, High Street, Amersham. Amersham Museum runs a monthly reminiscence group where we share our stories and memories from the past. These sessions are both stimulating and fun and give us the opportunity to meet new people. The sessions cost £2 per person and last for around an hour and always include tea, coffee and biscuits. In 2018, the museum is open from 10th February, every Wednesday to Sunday (and Bank Holiday Mondays) from 12 noon to 4.30pm.
We are open throughout the week for groups, schools, workshops and special events.
