This tour will take in the special exhibitions of the work of Austrian emigree Expressionist artist Marie-Louise von Motesiczky, one time resident of Amersham and Hampstead,  currently being held at both the Amersham Museum (9th March – 26th August) and at the Hampstead Museum in Burgh House (6th March – 15th December). The special exhibition at the Amersham Museum entitled ‘Marie-Louise in Amersham’ uses the six Motesiczky paintings in the Museum’s possession to explore her life in Amersham. The special exhibition at Hampstead entitled ‘Marie-Louise von Motescizky: (in)Visible Women’ showcases her portraits focussing on the everyday lives of women. The tour will be led by Roger Thomson (MA Cantab) the Director of Missenden Arts Club who runs workshops and tours in history of art and who has delivered a series of workshops on Motesiczky for the Amersham Museum and previously led tours to Hampstead including Burgh House.

The tour will start at 9.30am at the Amersham Museum with a brief introductory talk on the life and work of Motesiczky. Attendees will then have an opportunity to look at the special exhibition on Motesiczky at the Museum before walking up to Amersham Station to catch a Metropolitan line train to Finchley Road.  The group will then walk up to Burgh House in Hampstead village making very short detours on the way to visit two houses in which Motesiczky lived at the same time as she owned her house in Chestnut Lane in Amersham. On arrival at Burgh House the group will have lunch in the café followed by a self-guided tour of the Hampstead Museum’s special exhibition on Motesiczky and participants will be free to explore the other rooms. The tour will finish in Hampstead by 3.30pm. This will give those returning directly to Amersham the opportunity to be back in Amersham by around 5pm.

“Enjoyed our visit to this wonderful interactive museum where you are positively encouraged to touch things!”

“Visited Amersham museum yesterday – lovely place, provides many details on the history of the place. Plenty of cute cafes, pubs and shops around also… not difficult to find free parking nearby. ”

“A well-run, informative and interesting small museum on the main street. It’s mostly volunteer-run and they do a great job in keeping it and making you feel welcome…Check out the herb garden too.”

“Enjoyable film and television location guided walk around Amersham hosted by Amersham Museum – here are the Sun Houses on Highover Park and further up the hill is High & Over.”
