| About this object | This photograph which was converted to a postcard, shows Ursula and Isaac Duparc sitting in deckchairs on a beach and is presumably a holiday snap. As was typical for the time both are fully clothed in formal attire including hats. In the early part of the 20th century the clothing people wore at the seaside reflected social expectations as well as demonstrating class and wealth. Most people wore full suits. The heyday of real photo-postcards stretched from the early 20th century until the invention of colour printing in the 1930s, although production continued until the middle of the twentieth century. |
