| About this object | A scrapbook with documents relating to the Amersham Playgoers Theatre Group, a local drama society, from its inception until 1955. The Amersham Playgoers Theatre Group was founded in 1946. Established by local residents, the drama society first performed in the Playhouse Theatre on Station Road, Amersham-on-the-Hill. Starting out performing one-act plays privately for the club members, the founding intentions of the Group were to support the Playhouse Theatre and also to bring joy to the local community immediately after the Second World War. The group prided themselves on constructing their own scenery, building their own sets, and handling the lighting and sound for each production. Anniversary celebrations continued to be recorded in the ever-growing scrapbooks that have been built up over the years along with photos from most of the productions. Although the group sadly closed in 2023, they donated their extensive archive to Amersham Museum where it available for research. |
