About this object This professional studio photograph shows Isaac in an officer’s uniform of the 21st London Regiment in which he served in the First World War. However, his military service began several years earlier.

Isaac joined the Territorial Forces with the 12th County of London Corps in 1908. He served for six years mainly in Salisbury and Aldershot, leaving two months before the outbreak of the First World War. He joined the 21st London Regiment as a Lieutenant, although it does appear that he was conscripted rather than voluntarily joining up. He served in France from November 1916.

Isaac was wounded, and convalesced in a military hospital in Marylebone, before returning to active service in Egypt and Mandatory Palestine. The museum has a few documents from this period in his life relating to his military service, including the telegram sent to his family saying he was injured and the bag tag that went with his belongings when he was being shipped home to convalesce.
Physical Description Black and white positive mounted on light brown card with slightly scalloped edges.
