About this object This studio photograph depicts a young Ursula Duparc (nee Bamberger) with a young man.

Ursula’s parents were Louis Bamberger (b.1853) and Emily Bamberger (nee Woodburn). Ursula had seven siblings; the Bamberger household contained both parents, their eight children, and five members of household staff. The Bambergers employed a governess, cook and three general servants to maintain their 15-room home at 3 Lancaster Road, Hampstead.

In the 1901 census, the Bamberger household is noted to contain: ‘Louis Bamberger, Age 48 born in London Holborn, listed as timber merchant own account, Emily Bamberger, children Hannah, Maud, Harold, William, Frank and Ursula plus five staff.’

The man in the image is thought to be one of Ursula's brothers. Ursula was the youngest of the eight children.

A wealthy merchant family, their firm named ‘Bamberger’s’, later employed Ursula’s brothers Arthur (b. 1886 Islington) and Harold (b. May 1887) who were listed as ‘managers to a Timber Importer.’

It is believed that this studio photograph may have been taken in 1907, when Ursula would have been about 8 years old. Their fancy dress costumes may have been worn at the Lord Mayor's Fancy Dress Ball for Children in 1907. An image of Ursula in the same dress was published in the Illustrated London News on the 19th January 1907.
Physical Description Sepia photo of seated young man with legs wide and young girl (Ursula) on floor, both in harlequin costumes.
