According to 2024 figures from the Charity Commission, only 1% of Trustees are under the age of 30. We’re delighted to be one of six museums in England this year to partner with Kids in Museums – a charity championing change in museums to make them exciting and welcoming places – to encourage younger people to consider joining a museum board.

If you’re looking for charity sector and heritage organisation experience, an understanding of governance, networking, knowledge, and transferable skills such as strategic planning, risk management, charity operations, fundraising and project planning, we’d love to hear from you. If you’re passionate about Amersham and the surrounding area, and are motivated by sharing its history with the local community, this is a fantastic chance to make a difference. This is also a great opportunity to build specific skills that will make your CV stand out!

We are hoping to find two Trustees to join us. Our Board of Trustees would welcome a greater diversity of perspectives to enable us to make balanced and informed decisions, and to remain responsive to the challenges of our diverse audiences. We believe that including younger trustees on our board will help to futureproof decision-making, bring new and innovative ideas, and reflect the wider interests of the community we serve.

You can find full details in our recruitment pack. The deadline for applications is Friday 31 October. If you’d like to organise a chat about the opportunity or have any queries, Martin Day, Chair, or Alison Bailey, Vice-Chair, would be very happy to discuss the role with you. “A well-run, informative and interesting small museum on the main street. It’s mostly volunteer-run and they do a great job in keeping it and making you feel welcome…Check out the herb garden too.”

“Enjoyable film and television location guided walk around Amersham hosted by Amersham Museum – here are the Sun Houses on Highover Park and further up the hill is High & Over.”
