Exhibitions

Visit Amersham Museum on the town’s annual Heritage Day to see our brand new exhibition, Precious Objects.

When artist Marie-Louise von Motesiczky fled her home in Vienna and settled in Amersham at the start of the Second World War, she was only able to bring a few items to England. We are delighted to be borrowing a pair of 18th century enamelled sheep ornaments from Tate, two items precious to Marie-Louise, as part of this exhibition.

What would be your precious object?

Artist Elaine Duigenan has designed our new exhibition, which features artworks created by pupils from Our Lady’s School, children who attend the Museum’s Art Club, and members of its Singing Group. Visitors and organisers from Amersham’s Refugee Week 2024 event, members of Amersham Museum Singing Group, and other local residents including Amersham Mayor Dominic Pinkney and Sarah Green MP, have each lent a precious object and shared its story. Our Collections Volunteers have also nominated their most precious object on display in the Museum for visitors to discover.

Lacemaking

Try your hand at traditional bobbin lacemaking with our expert volunteers, who will be demonstrating their skills in the Museum’s garden.

Martyrs and Mummers

Outside the Museum, look for cast members of the Amersham Martyrs Community Play 2022 sharing their research on Tudor Amersham and try out a spell in the pillory! They will perform a short Mummers Play at 12.00noon and 2.00pm.
