We’re thrilled to announce that the Rothschild Foundation has awarded Amersham Museum a grant of £72,000 from its Strategic Fund for a three year project to inspire and support new audiences to make creative connections with its collections and local history.
Providing funding for the Creating Connections project recognises the importance of building resilience for the Museum as a small independent charity as it will allow all three current part-time staff to increase their hours, and to employ the museum’s first administrative officer in its history!
With this increased capacity, and working with our brilliant team of volunteers, we aim to support people wanting to carry out research into our collections with a suite of research materials that guide professionals and amateurs to explore our local history holdings more effectively. A second target audience are local makers, inspiring them to work with the collections and local history to contribute to our exhibitions, collections development, and our learning and events programme. We will also work to expand our ability to welcome, engage with and inspire people with special educational needs and disabilities, with new resources, sessions and facilities to support successful, enjoyable visits. Our fourth focus will be to work with schools who don’t currently visit the museum, including those outside our immediate local area. We will also be expanding what we can offer to schools that already visit, with new learning sessions and resources in broader curriculum areas.
Museum Director Briony Hudson commented:
“I am absolutely delighted that the Rothschild Foundation are funding our Creating Connections project. For a small museum, it’s a very significant investment and an endorsement of our aims to offer a wider welcome to more people. What underpins all of the elements of this project is finding ways to inspire people to make connections with our collections, local history and the Museum itself – and we’re really excited to get started.”
