The Town Swarmed with Culture Exhibition banner
Amersham Museum
£13 including a glass of wine or soft drink

The short film dis-placed by Helen Henderson forms part of our temporary exhibition “The Town Swarmed with Culture.”  Join Helen and local historian Alison Bailey to see the exhibition, watch the film on a large screen, and find out more about Helen’s family history both in Russia and Buckinghamshire, and how it has provided inspiration for her creative work.

This special evening opening will explore the exhibition themes: the wide-ranging émigré community who made this area their home; a special focus on Czechoslovak sculptor Mary Duras, whose bust of Helen’s mother, Irina Motchaloff is featured in the exhibition; and the backdrop of trauma and tragedy against which these refugees brought new creative energy to the area.

“Visited Amersham museum yesterday – lovely place, provides many details on the history of the place. Plenty of cute cafes, pubs and shops around also… not difficult to find free parking nearby. ”

“A well-run, informative and interesting small museum on the main street. It’s mostly volunteer-run and they do a great job in keeping it and making you feel welcome…Check out the herb garden too.”

“Enjoyable film and television location guided walk around Amersham hosted by Amersham Museum – here are the Sun Houses on Highover Park and further up the hill is High & Over.”
