Amersham Museum Golf Day at Harewood Downs Golf Club on Thurs. 25th July 2024

Richard England kindly took on the task of organising another Golf Day, ably assisted by his wife Hilary and friend Graham Geldeard. Many other volunteers and Friends assisted with assembling and donating prizes, auction lots and finding sponsors for the event.

Preparing for the first tee

We woke on the day to a disappointing forecast of grey skies and rain, but for the time the 46 golfers were out on the course the rain largely held off. Anthony the mobile museum was proudly on display and Liz Lean, Hilary England, Jill Mace, Linda Gould and Belinda Taylor set up Reception for the participants to register, invest in some mulligans and raffle tickets only to be hit in the pocket again when invited by Ray Cockerill to guess how many balls would be lost on the day for a cash prize!

Winning Team

Both individual and team events were staged, with the Jaggard Macland team winning, and one of their partners Greg Rowland winning an individual visitor prize with another going to Ken Noble, and the Harewood Member’s prize won by Vic Adams.

AuctionAfter supper Peter Williams acted as auctioneer selling various lots of golf 4-ball vouchers, golfing memorabilia, vouchers for London & Whipsnade zoos, champagne and wine. Annie Hamilton-Pike and Jill then found even more customers for raffle tickets before the lucky tickets were drawn for lunch for two at the Artichoke Restaurant and a night at The Crown Hotel.

The Museum is very grateful to all participants in the golf competitions, the generous sponsorship from local individuals and businesses listed below in providing prizes and supporting the day, and for the input from the many volunteers, all of which raised a very impressive sum of over £3,000 towards Museum funds.
