Amersham Museum is delighted to launch a new Travel Bursary, helping more schools overcome the cost of transport and giving more children the chance to enjoy a school trip to the Museum.

We know that while the cost of a museum session can often be budgeted for, transport costs are expensive and can make educational visits difficult for some schools. Our new bursary has been created to help remove this barrier and make visits to Amersham Museum more accessible.

Schools can apply for one of two bursary awards:

  • £400 towards the cost of a coach
  • £200 towards the cost of a minibus

The bursary is open to state-funded schools that may otherwise be unable to visit because of transport costs. Priority will be given to schools that have not visited Amersham Museum within the last two years. Please note that the bursary covers travel costs only; the cost of the Museum session remains payable by the school.

Schools applying for the bursary will be asked to explain how the funding will benefit their pupils, including the educational impact of the visit and the barriers they face in arranging it.

Applications for the current round of funding close on Friday 23 October 2026, with successful applicants being notified after the October half-term holiday.

We are extremely grateful to The Sherling Charitable Trust, whose generous support has made this new Travel Bursary possible. Their funding will help ensure that more children have the opportunity to explore local history through a memorable and inspiring visit to Amersham Museum.

Schools interested in applying can find full details and the application form on our School Visit Travel Bursary page.
