| About this object | These spectacles were dispensed by the opticians Turner & Browning who were based on Sycamore Road, Amersham on the Hill, in the 1930s. They also had a practice in Chesham, opening at number 4 the High Street in 1933. By the 1950s, RJ Browning had moved premises and was operating alone. Whilst Mr Turner practised in Amersham, Mr Browning continued to practice in Chesham before finally retiring. |
| Physical Description | The spectacles are round tortoise shell plastic frames with round lenses. They are 12cm in width. They have a gold-coloured metal bridge and hinges. The arms of the glasses are tortoiseshell plastic and gold-coloured metal. The ends of the arms are flexible curved metal to fit behind the ears. The case is rigid, covered with textured green leather and lined with dark green velvet. The case lid is hinged. It is 14.5cm in length and 6cm wide. The name of the opticians 'Turner & Browning, Amersham & Chesham' is printed in gold lettering on the case. |
