School Visit Travel Bursary
We believe every child should have the chance to go on a school trip. We know, however, that the cost of transport can make educational visits difficult for some schools. To help make visits to Amersham Museum more accessible, we offer a limited number of Travel Bursary’s to support the cost of travelling to and from the Museum.
Schools can apply for one of two bursary awards:
• £400 towards the cost of a coach
• £200 towards the cost of a minibus
Please note that the bursary covers travel costs only. The cost of your school session at the Museum is still payable by the school.
Once a bursary has been awarded, the funding will be paid directly into the school’s bank account. Schools are responsible for booking and paying their chosen transport provider.
Who can apply?
Our Travel Bursary is designed to support schools where transport costs might otherwise prevent a visit to the Museum. Priority will be given to schools that have not visited Amersham Museum within the last two years.
The bursary is not available to independent schools.
How to apply
As part of your application, you will be asked to provide a statement explaining why your school is applying for the bursary and how the funding will benefit your pupils.
Your statement should include, where relevant:
• The impact that you expect your visit to have
• The barriers that would prevent your school from visiting without the bursary.
• Numbers in your school receiving free school meals
• If your visit makes use of your Pupil Premium allowance
• Percentage of EAL students
Key dates
Applications for 2026-27 academic year close on Friday 23 October 2026.
Successful schools will be contacted after the October half-term holiday.
The Amersham Museum Travel Bursary is generously funded by The Sherling Charitable Trust. We are grateful for their support in helping more schools experience the Museum.
Please download the application form here and once completed return it to the Learning Officer [email protected].
