We’re delighted to welcome Catherine Bridget Phillips as Amersham Museum’s first Maker in Residence. Catherine, an Amersham based ceramicist, completed her studies in Contemporary Craft at Bucks New University in 2016, specialising in ceramics and glass. She creates small-batch hand-built objects, with a focus on decorative functional ware. Texture is really important in her work, creating tactile pieces that invite people to feel them. Her work is heavily influenced by her surroundings in the Chilterns, alongside its local history.
Catherine has a long-standing relationship with Amersham Museum, having first exhibited here in 2019. A member of our professional Makers’ Hub, and exhibitor in our 2025 Land Marks exhibition, Catherine will be working in the museum to create pieces inspired by our collections. You can find her working on site on a number of dates for the rest of 2026, when she’d be more than happy to talk to visitors about her work, and techniques, how and where she finds inspiration, and her plans for future pieces. As part of the residency, Catherine will also be running public workshops in spring 2027, and creating pieces which the museum will acquire for its permanent collection.
