We were thrilled to receive a Research and Development grant of nearly £5000 from the Weston Loan Programme with Art Fund in June 2024. It is funding Artists Want the Vote! a 12 month project to investigate activist artists in the Amersham area in the early twentieth century. Based on detailed research into the museum’s holdings from the Chiltern Club of Arts and Handicrafts, founded in 1919, our aim is to identify interesting local stories, to make links with museums and galleries across the UK with artworks by local artists who were Club members, and introduce the research to young people, current artists and makers, and local women’s groups. We hope the project will lay the groundwork for an exciting exhibition in 2028, to mark the centenary of the Equal Franchise Act.

“A well-run, informative and interesting small museum on the main street. It’s mostly volunteer-run and they do a great job in keeping it and making you feel welcome…Check out the herb garden too.”

“Enjoyable film and television location guided walk around Amersham hosted by Amersham Museum – here are the Sun Houses on Highover Park and further up the hill is High & Over.”
