These estimates made by Dr Michael Brooks are based on analysis of births, marriages and deaths from the St Mary’s Church parish records. Population figures were affected by many diseases including plague. Smallpox, enteric fevers, the venereal diseases, typhus and influenza, typhoid and cholera were commonly fatal.

By 1832, the population of Amersham was 2,816 and of Chesham Bois , which then included part of Chesham Moor, was 157.  By 2011, the population of Amersham was about 23,000.
